Rukantha Chandralekha Live in Concert at Colombo Pics

The power of music was demonstrated at its best when thousands of ardent music lovers belonging to all age groups thronged the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last Friday evening to witness what can be rightly called the show of the year – 'Rookantha-Chandralekha Live at Stadium'.

Rookantha Gunathilaka and Chandralekha Perera who blazed new trails in the Sinhala music industry returned to the country after a four-year lapse, but the masses of this country gave them an assurance in one voice – that they would always remain lovable stars in this country.

The songs of Rooka and Lekha have touched deep inside you because they sing with feeling. They feel the feeling of words they sing. This proves that the power of music lies not in virtuosity or vocal gymnastics, but in the feeling.

While on the topic of music power one must not forget the power of three bold and beautiful women who organized the mega Rooka-Lekha show as a project under their entertainment marketing and events management company 'S-Three'.

S-Three comprises popular personalities Sangeetha Weeraratne, Shereen Kumaratunga and Sudharma Nettikumara. These three perfectionists were ably supported by Coordinating Director Janaka Mallimarachchi who played a key role in making the dream show a reality. The proceeds of the show would go towards a fund initiated by Minister and film actor Jeevan Kumaratunga to build homes for deserving war heroes.

The dance troupe of veteran Channa Wijewardane also added rich tones to the event while anchorman Kelum Srimal was able to keep the audience spellbound by transforming feelings into words.

Rooka-Lekha's daughters Rainee and Windy together with Yohan mesmerized the overflowing crowds at the Sugathadasa Stadium in addition to Keerthi Pasqual, Nirosha Virajini, Amal Perera, Raju Bandara, Dhammika Bandara, Athula Adhikari, Amila Nadeeshani, Gayan Perera  and Nelu Adhikari who also created a rhythmic chain of Rookantha melodies.

The three-hour show was held amidst thundering applause from the thousands of affectionate fans who had no better way of acknowledging their love for Rooka, Lekha and their family.
